2016 SEASON LAUNCH

What do we do?

The Support Our Paras Racing team was born with the idea of bringing together a completely different concept for a team competing in the British Touring Car Championship. Based at Mallory Park, the teams race car and race preparation are all carried out in the UK by injured ex-servicemen of Britain‘s most iconic Band of Brothers, the Parachute Regiment. The team‘s primary aim is to give back to those who have so selflessly and bravely fought for their country.

Being part of Support Our Paras Racing gives the ex-servicemen a chance to not only face a new challenge and obtain a new skill set, but also gives them the opportunity to promote the regiment and charity they routinely laid down their lives for in the act of serving their country.

The team lets the ex-servicemen showcase to the British public the great work that Support Our Paras, the official charity for the Parachute Regiment, does in supporting injured soldiers and their families. It also helps them with rehabilitation and retraining, no matter the difficulties they face in their daily lives. The team has already received overwhelming support from the British public and BTCC fans alike, and we would like you to help continue the mission.

What is the BTCC?

As the UK’s premier race series, the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship headlines at all of Britain’s major motor sport venues across the country. The nationwide 10-event, 30-race calendar selects the best circuits to ensure the ultimate on-track experience, reaching the maximum number of fans across the country.

The geographical spread of venues deliberately provides teams, drivers, sponsors and partners with an opportunity to engage with different audiences across the UK. In addition, it also allows them to carry out effective regional and national marketing campaigns coupled with international opportunities that the TV coverage provides. The BTCC also ensures that hundreds of thousands of fans can catch the action close to their homes when the Championship rolls into town. From the general public seeking thrills and spills, to large and small businesses looking to entertain and impress clients, the country-wide BTCC has something for everyone.

As Britain’s biggest motor racing championship, the BTCC is a global brand that commands enormous media coverage. Television has always been the BTCC’s most powerful medium, and since the late Eighties the championship has received regular coverage from Britain’s biggest TV operators. ITV has recently extended its commitment to the BTCC in a deal that runs until 2017, showing each race live on ITV4 & ITV4 HD

About The Team

Led by Team Principal Derek Palmer Snr, the multi-championship winning touring car crew chief has put together a strong team — including young dynamic drivers — combining a wealth of experience, youth and talent, setting the foundation to not only guide and educate the Paras but also to allow them to pave their way to new successes.

The heartbeat of the team are the seven injured Paratroopers who have built, and now prepare and run, their BTCC machinery and are led by ex-Colour Sergeant Darren Fuller. With the uniqueness of the project, combined with the experience of the team and prestige of the British Parachute Regiment, Support Our Paras Racing expects to deliver exceptional rewards for sponsors, the team and most importantly, the charity.

The project has been one of overcoming the odds — a situation the injured paratroopers are familiar with — to compete in the most closely fought touring car championship in the world.
